We are working with an established Fire Suppression Design firm in the Cincinnati, Ohio area who are actively seeking a Fire Suppression Design Engineer to join their team. They are open to a Junior or Senior level professional.
Your Role:
You will design fire special hazard fire suppression and alarm systems for multiple location categories, including manufacturing, research laboratories.
- Design life safety and asset protection systems using AutoCAD and proprietary software applications, adhering to local, national, and manufacturer requirements.
- Direct contractors in the proper installation and operation of systems.
- Survey job sites to ensure proper system design and installation.
- Read, review, and implement customer-supplied project specifications.
- Attend manufacturer training classes and other continued education training
- Create project-specific operation and maintenance manuals.
- Update existing drawings.
- Assist office staff with engineering-related tasks such as process improvement.
- Assist with system inspection and maintenance as needed.
- Assist in system startups and commissioning as needed.
Required Skills:
- Proficient in designing special hazard fire suppression and fire alarm systems, excluding standard sprinkler-only designs
- Advanced skills in AutoCAD 2D and 3D for creating detailed fire protection system layouts.
- Strong knowledge of fire protection industry standards and codes, including NFPA guidelines.
- Knowledge and efficient use of 3D design software.
- Understanding of MS Office applications.
- Good organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate technical information.
- Desire to learn industry standards.
Required Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Alternatively, 4+ years of relevant fire protection design experience can substitute for the degree
- 2+ years designing special hazard fire suppression and fire alarm systems, including experience as a Fire Systems Design Engineer, performing site surveys, and providing installation oversight
- Experience delivering project-specific operation and maintenance documentation
- Demonstrated responsibility for interpreting and implementing customer project specifications in fire protection design.
- Proficient knowledge of AutoCAD 2D drafting.
Preferred Experience:
- NICET certification, preferably Level III or higher; progress towards it is a plus
- If not currently certified, willingness to study for and obtain NICET certification
