We are working with a leading roadway design and construction engineering firm who is actively seeking a Senior Traffic Design Project Engineer, to work on multiple projects from their offices in Herndon, Virginia Beach, or Richmond, Virginia.
Your Role:
You will be responsible for leading, overseeing, and performing engineering design using advanced knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. You will also act as a technical advisor and mentor to less experienced engineers.
- Lead the design of multiple concurrent roadway and traffic projects.
- Assist the Project Manager with consultative services to the client by understanding client requirements, recommendations, and solutions to enhance client experience.
- Attend client meetings or interviews in support of the Project Manager.
- Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
- Design projects using advanced discipline knowledge, client specifications and guidelines using design software and drawing tools.
- Develop solutions to complex problems and share best practices/lessons learned on a wide scale,
- Define parameters, review, and present alternative studies based on experience and advanced engineering knowledge.
- Prepare or lead the preparation of engineering documents, technical reports, memos, and the like.
- Evaluate and collaborate on discipline’s workflow and standard operating procedures to increase efficiency.
- Perform and check design computations.
- Perform quality reviews of project design in accordance with the Project Management Plan.
- Provide cross disciplinary and constructability reviews on complex projects.
- Provide input to the Project Manager and Section Head with scope development, work hours for tasks, and project schedule creation for discipline.
- Manage and lead work to meet provided project schedule and budget relevant to discipline.
- Coordinate and collaborate with team members and other disciplines to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality.
- Delegate project work to design engineers, coordinate project requirements, and perform quality reviews.
- Mentor and coach on technical knowledge to advance their skill development and advise on project design.
- Actively participate and contribute in industry organizations, publications, and/or conversations, including making presentations, publishing papers, and the like.
Required Skills:
- Proficient in discipline specific software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Written and communication skills.
- Familiarity of a variety of engineering disciplines.
- Presentation skills.
Required Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- 15+ years of experience.
Preferred Experience:
- Professional Engineer License.
- Specific discipline certifications (PTOE or IMSA, etc.).
- Experience working with local clients at the county and state level.
